The long awaited Jailbreak for the iOS 5 is finally here! The Absinthe A5 untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 is released for OS X, Windows and Linux.
The team behind this release is the famous Greenpois0n. They state in their blog that this time, unlike before, it was much harder for them to crack it down. There were complex, nested exploits which made it harder for just a single team of iOS hackers to release the jailbreak.
Hackers have been working for months on this, since the dual core A5 processor was launched by Apple. They say it gets harder and harder every time a new device is released. Many world renowned hackers have spent countless hours working on exploits. The Chronic Dev team, which is the mastermind behind Greenpois0n, decided to take a different approach, by launching a CDevReporter tool which let the users of iOS devices send bugs and crash reports to the team directly. The results of this measure was astonishing! Over 10 million reports were submitted by the users within one week.
The Chronic Dev team then engaged with several other hacker groups like pod2g, posixninja, nikias, planetbeing, saurik, MuscleNerd, etc. to work together on those crash reports and identify the exploits. The efforts finally paid off and the team released the Absinthe toolkit to public.
